In 1931, Bobby Jones set out to find a plot of land suitable for his dream course. Jones was introduced to the Fruitland Nurseries just on the outskirts of Augusta, Georgia- claimed to be the oldest and one of the best in the south. The nursery sold fruit trees (the finest Georgia Peach trees around) and budding Azaleas. Many say this nursery made Georgia famous for its sweet Georgia Peaches.

Many say some of the azaleas still have lineage to the nursery. Jones purchased the land soon after and the rest is history.
