North Coast Adventures: Cabot Cliffs
World-class golf with dramatic coastal views and rugged terrain. This place is truly a bucket list destination.
By Matt Fernandez
Nestled on the coast of Cape Breton Island in Nova Scotia, Cabot Cliffs is a golf experience like no other, where dramatic coastal views and rugged terrain combine to create one of the most visually captivating courses in the world.
Unmatched Scenery
Perched high above the ocean, the Cliffs course is visually stunning with a layout offering an unforgettable blend of links-style golf, resort golf, and pure golf ruggedness. From the moment you step onto the first tee to the final putt on 18, the course takes you on a journey as dynamic as its scenery
A Journey Along the Coast
The front nine weaves its way along the coast before heading inland, only to return to the dramatic cliffs for the finish. The back nine mirrors this flow, with holes 15 through 18 perched precariously above the Atlantic, offering some of the most awe-inspiring views in the game. It’s hard to overstate the sheer scale of the setting—every hole showcases the ocean, with the cliffs stealing the spotlight in spectacular fashion.
Where Fun Meets Challenge
The design of Cabot Cliffs feels like it’s meant to take your breath away, both visually and with the shots it demands. Every hole offers a mix of challenge, creativity and fun, with carnival-like shots you simply won’t find anywhere else. The dramatic elevation changes, jaw-dropping vistas, and unique shot-making opportunities make for a round you’ll never forget.
We played the Cliffs course twice, on the first day I had a ton of good birdie looks and the weather was picture-perfect. The second time around the course ate my lunch. The wind was hollowing and it was pretty crazy to see just how different the course plays when the winds picks up. My scores? 76-86. Ooofff.
Cliffs at Dusk
I've always believed that every great course has a home stretch that begs you to come back for more. If we're looking at it through that scope, Cabot Cliffs may just be the very best in the world. Few courses can rival the magic of Cabot Cliffs at sunset. With the golden hour light reflecting off the water and the ocean breeze filling the air, the final stretch feels almost otherworldly—a fitting close to an incredible experience.
